Important Info Sessions – June 3rd

On Friday, June 3rd our School Council will be holding two information sessions and they are inviting all of our PNCS parents, staff and other community members to attend. The sessions are free and you can attend one session or both. The sessions are being led by staff from the Saffron Centre which is a non-profit agency which operates out of Sherwood Park. Part of their mandate is to offer pro-active education to help bring an end to sexual violence.
Session #1 (10:00-11:00 am) Recognizing On-Line Exploitation
  • Safe screen time, social media platforms and video games.
  • The reality of on-line exploitation, what to do when it is encountered and how to support youth experiencing it.
  • How to think critically about what youth might see on-line and how to give them the skills to understand how to stay safe on the internet.
Session #2 (11:20-12:20 pm) Disclosure Training
  • Recognizing signs of distress in others and how to properly approach a conversation when symptoms of trauma are evident.
  • Active listening techniques including what is and is not appropriate to say when receiving a disclosure of sensitive information.
  • Legal responsibilities of a person receiving a disclosure. After-care and self-care techniques for attendees to use and share.
